I think the serialized format could be fun enough to enjoy in the same way as a TV show. It seems there are tons of people (talking about) writing on Vella, but not a soul (talks about) reading. There are no threads with readers' recommendations, not a single thread here in r/books, nothing anywhere. There were only people talking about publishing their stories on Vella, asking about publishing there, and discussion whether it was profitable. To my surprise, all the discussion I found on Reddit, YouTube and so on was strictly from a writer's point of view. I'm a reader, not an author, so when I discovered it I was curious and tried to see if there had been discussion online about which stories would be worth trying out, or even if people enjoyed the platform at all. In a way you could say it mimics the serialized novels of yore, and this modern spin on the format is pretty big in Asia AFAIK.Īmazon has done nearly nothing to promote this platform as far as I can tell. Readers can read the first few chapters for free, then pay a small amount to unlock each new chapter as they are published.
